• TYPES OF IMPLANT
Implants are categorized into 3 types, based on the time required :
A) Single stage implants: The latest in dental implant technology, this involves completion of the entire procedure, in one stage of approximately two weeks.
B) Two stage implants: The procedure is carried out in two stages spread over a minimum interval of 4-5 months.
• STAGE ONE
Placing the Implant Involves the placement of specific size and shape implants at strategic locations in the mouth. This is performed under local anaesthesia and the entire procedure takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour. The healing process takes two to three months but varies from patient to patient. This is the amount of time it usually takes for the implant to become part of the jaw.
• STAGE TWO
Attaching the Abutment Abutment is attached to the implant post. Now a days zirconia abutment is also available that can provide translucency similar to a natural tooth.
Crown Placement After impressions are taken, a crown is made in the lab which is shaded to match your existing teeth. The crown is then placed over the post and cemented.
The Completed Implant The final prosthetic crown appears as a natural tooth.
C) Immediate implants : This is a specialized technique, allowing teeth to be replaced in a single day. Most cases are eligible for this technique; however, pre-treatment investigations are required to confirm this
